Inter-Tribal Foodways Program 2022

The Inter-Tribal Foodways Program provides an inclusive and culturally safe environment for reconnecting with land-based knowledge systems and practices around Indigenous farming practices, ancestral food harvesting, food processing, and sharing healthy and culturally-relevant foods across a diversity of cultures. 

Guided by the traditional seasonal rounds and subsistence practices, all our programming, community workshops, events and feasting are delivered by Indigenous People for Indigenous Peoples, local communities and nations as well as for our plant, animal, water and land relations. Through Indigenous-led community efforts our mission is to enact localized ancestral food sovereignty, provide education on wholistic ways to decolonize our diets and offer hands-on opportunities for community members to participate in preserving and sharing ancestral foodway knowledge systems.

The Inter-Tribal Foodways Program centers on reciprocal knowledge sharing and collaborative land-based education through empowering community-led and Inter-Tribal programming. We provide inter-generational learning spaces where we center programming for Indigenous youth, elders and community members with free access to fresh, healthy, culturally relevant food, as well as, opportunities for deepening connection to land, place, and community.

This year, we are grateful to our Funders, The Vancouver Foundation and Second Harvest for making this program possible. Thank you to Collingwood Neighbourhood House, Mount Pleasant Community Centre and Tsawwassen First Nations for providing kitchen facilities for our food processing workshops. We would also like to raise our hands up with love and respect to our friends at the Indigenous Food and Freedom School and the Ancestral Foodways Collective Society for collaborating on the inaugural Ancestral Ways: Food Festival.
