Inter-tribal partnerships that strengthen Indigenous food ways corridors is the heart of revitalizing Indigenous sovereignty. Throughout the Inter-tribal foodways program, Dunna'eh partnered with other Indigenous-led organizations to provide inclusive and culturally safe environments for reconnecting with land-based knowledge systems and practices around Indigenous farming practices, ancestral food harvesting, food processing, and sharing healthy and culturally-relevant foods across a diversity of cultures.
Dunna'eh partnered with the Indigenous Food and Freedom School and the Ancestral Foodways Collective Society to deliver the inaugural Ancestral Ways: Food Festival. The Ancestral Food Festival was a four month long series of food processing workshops, community celebrations, plant walks, and feasts dedicated to celebrating Indigenous food histories. Together facilitated events across the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories.
A highlight of the Festival included the The Meeting of the Cycles of the Corn, Bison and Salmon Feasting Celebration. The celebration was a seeded intention to celebrate the beauty of the arts. Activities included painting a community mural, Shona Sparrow from the Syilx Okanagan Nation Alliance shared her beautiful knowledge around the cultural uses of cedar and community members had the opportunity to make cedar weaved bracelets. Elder Martin Sparrow grounded us into the day and shared a beautiful food prayer and stories of Salmon. We also had live music by the talented singer and guitarist Bria Rose, who is Tahltan and Cree.
